Major-General Jeremy Vearey @ Palmyra Room, Kelvin Grove [ DINNER ]

In his book, Jacques Pauw describes police Major-General Jeremy Vearey as "the Western Cape's most avid anti-gang crusader”. Pauw chronicled how Vearey, as head of Operation Impi, came close to busting corruption in the police and to plugging the gun-running that is responsible for so much mayhem and death on the Cape Flats ... But then he crossed Jacob Zuma’s path and his operations were closed down, related Pauw.

Jeremy Vearey grew up in Elsies River. Active in the struggle as an MK member, he was eventually imprisoned on Robben Island. He is a Major-General in the South African Police Service and regarded by many as one of South Africa’s top cops. He will address the Cape Town Press Club over dinner and take questions.

Vearey has written his own account of his life in Jeremy vannie Elsies which will be available at the Press Club dinner.

Working journalists are welcome to attend for free if they do not want the meal. There will be the opportunity to put questions to the speaker. If one-on-one interviews are desired, please let us know in advance and we will inform the speaker and do our best to secure it.
