David James Smith's Young Mandela - Book Launch - Cocktail Party

He has been mythologised as a flawless hero of the liberation struggle.  But how exactly did Nelson Mandela’s early personal and political life shape the triumphs to come? In "Young Mandela" David James Smith has written a book which has been lauded for going behind the myth to find the man who people have forgotten or never knew. Smith believes he has found much that is new, much that is surprising and much that is shocking.

David James Smith has been a journalist all his working life.  He now writes for the Sunday Times Magazine and lives in Lewes, East Sussex , with his partner and their four children.

He is the author of The Sleep of Reason – The James Bulger Case, All About Jill, Supper with the Crippens and One Morning in Sarajevo – 28 June 1914.
